Norseman Extreme Triathlon: An epic adventure!

Norseman Extreme Triathlon: An epic adventure!

The Norseman Extreme Triathlon is extreme in many ways: Starting at sea level with a fjord swim, it ends at 1,850m atop Mt. Gaustatoppen; the point-to-point course requires each athlete provide their own support crew; and the weather can be very unpredictable given the altitude changes throughout the race. The goal is not really to [...] :: Please click on the headline to read the entire story.

Ironman WI – My First IM WIN!!

Ironman WI – My First IM WIN!!

WOW! So I’m writing here about my first Ironman VICTORY, right here on my home turf in Madison, WI. I’m so happy and thankful I don’t know where to start!! This year certainly started slowly – if you read any of my earlier blogs this year it was a long process getting back into ‘race’ shape and getting my run back up to speed. Winning an Ironman was the farthest thing from my mind in February, where I could barely run a 7 minute mile! I put in a lot of work this year, day in and day out, and even though I was tempted to try a earlier IM, I waited until Ironman Mont Tremblant (IMMT) in August. At that race I felt it , I was ready. My run was back and I my mind was strong to push through an Ironman. This was my first time...Read More

Badwater 135: Meredith Dolhare on running the...

To help raise awareness for RunningWorks, Meredith Dolhare is running the Badwater 135 ultramarathon. Stride Nation spoke to her just days before the race, about motivation, coffin-sized coolers, a plan if her shoes melt, and blister management. Monday's  forecast  in Death Valley is 120 degrees. Both Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to see highs of 118. The  low  over this three-day stretch is 90 degrees. But what else would you expect from a race that starts in a town called Furnace Creek? And it's in that heat that 100 runners will set out on a 135-mile ultramarathon, through some of the most unforgiving terrain on the planet -- this is the  Badwater Ultramarathon , the world's toughest footrace.

Bill Rancic to Run ING New York City Marathon...

On November 3, Bill Rancic will find himself an apprentice again, at least as far as the 26.2-mile reality of the ING New York City Marathon is concerned. Like softball star Jennie Finch (2011) and New York Giants receiver Amani Toomer (2010) before him, Rancic will be the last person to start the race and will partner with Timex, which will donate $1 to Fab-U-Wish for every runner he passes. Finch and Toomer, combined, earned $56,211 for their charities. Rancic, 42, was the winner on the first season of The Apprentice , in 2004, and is now the co-star and co-executive producer of the reality show Bill and Giuliana with Giuliana Rancic, whom he married in 2007. In late 2011, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and...Read More

Timex Run Trainer GPS 2.0 In-Depth Review

Timex Run Trainer GPS 2.0 In-Depth Review

It’s been just over a year and a half since the first  Timex Run Trainer  came out, and Timex is back at it releasing a slimmed down version of the unit with a cleaned up user interface.  This new unit adds in features such as nutrition alerts, while at the same time simplifying general operation of the watch. In running 3-4 times a week over the last month plus, I’ve got a pretty good grasp on how the unit works, as well as all the details inside and out.  Because I want to be transparent about my reviews, once my evaluation period with the Timex Run Trainer 2.0 has elapsed, I send it back to Timex in Middlebury, Connecticut.  Simple as that.  Sorta like hiking in wilderness trails –...Read More

Introducing the Timex Ironman Run Trainer 2.0...

Over the weekend, I was a guest of the Timex Multisport Team's annual training camp, held in the New York Giants' practice facility in New Jersey. Though, "training camp" is perhaps not entirely accurate -- it was really more of a chance for the athletes to reconnect, meet with sponsors and collect their gear for another season. Perhaps just as important, they received their new watched for training, the  Timex Ironman Run Trainer 2.0 GPS . The watch is set for a release in March, with numerous improvements and upgrades over the 1.0 version, including a smaller case size, easier to navigate menu-based system and vibrating alerts. But for me, the most noticeable -- and very welcomed -- improvement is the easier-to-read screen....Read More

High-Res, High Tech: Timex's Breakthrough Run...

Timex’s newest offering gives triathletes a smaller, sleeker way to track workouts. Just in time for the 2013 race season, Timex debuted the sleek new IRONMAN Run Trainer 2.0 watch earlier this month — and thanks to our partnership, we got an early chance to take it for a run, bike, and swim at the Timex Multisport Team training camp. Using a screen that would be at home on a smartphone, the new gadget takes the triathlete's watch up a notch with an easy-to-use upgraded menu system, crisp display and logical interface that make monitoring pace, speed, and distance a breeze. Water resistant to 50 m, the Run Trainer 2.0 offers lots of options for setting up and tracking workouts. The customizable, reversible screen...Read More

Berlin 70.3: Up the runway, down the runway…

This weekend marked the inaugural race of the Berlin 70.3. I was pretty excited to get a chance to race in this historic city.   Unfortunately, the course didn’t really go through the city. The basic idea was this: swim in the Spree River, then cycle 5 miles to Templehof Airport and complete the bike [...] :: Please click on the headline to read the entire story.

Every year, Barry Siff puts together a great Pro Panel heading into Ironman Boulder 70.3. This year did not disappoint with Drew Scott, Tim Don, Rachel Joyce and Liz Blatchford on the panel.
